Not sure why you'd care

The Squeezebox isn't going away anytime soon. It's a great solution. But more importantly, - it's a great solution for you. You wouldn't buy an Aurender/Sonore level streamer even if it do Tidal/Qobuz etc. Why would you spend $3000 on something that you already have bought for $400?

You may be giving too much emphasis on what you think other audiophiles want.

I doubt that either one of us has conducted a poll, but the old paradigm of buying physical media extends to digital files and building a COLLECTION that is OURS to do with what we want. I take my CD, I RIP it to AIFF, I copy it to my NAS drive, - I apply the metadata how I want it applied. OR, I download the FLAC file, I convert it to AIFF, - I copy it to my NAS drive.

I cannot argue that the future is coming, and it flies against both the superior quality in "software"/music and in playback gear. The future holds less and less quality, in lieu of convenience: but that doesn't mean that the majority of audiophiles aren't holding on to the old ways.

"Asylums with doors open wide,
Where people had paid to see inside,
For entertainment they watch his body twist
Behind his eyes he says, 'I still exist.'"
