I am very happy with my Geek Out, but I am using it with a PC (Windows 7) and JRiver.
My other DACs are also in the "under 500" category - a MyDAC and a ADL GT40. I think it compares nicely with the MyDAC, and it can handle DSD, which is nice. I have not compared it to big-rig DACs.
I have to bog-standard version, so I will say it drives my NAD VISO HP50s well, but my Sennheiser HD600s, not so much.
Some day I will hook it up to my Mac at work, if I ever have time to listen to music while I'm working.
