no point in audiophile terms to build a system around a 'speaker' whilst fixing the front end. What he should perhaps have said was that one needs to build a system for a ROOM!
When one achieves a degree of sonic independence from front and rear ends in a room or in different rooms, then audio nirvana can perhaps prevail.
This is easier said than done but wide exposure to hardware in different environments is the basis of good audio practice. The approach to this, I have found, is to use high quality room compensation software and hardware which take months to set up properly.
