If you are already familiar with Windows 7, I would just stick with that on a PC unless you're thinking of expanding your horizons to checkout Mac OS X.
I made the switch to Mac about 6 years ago as my primary computing platform but still have Windows PCs and laptops around the house that we use now and then. My wife is more familiar with Windows and less open to learning a different OS. Although she loves her iPhone and iPad, her laptop is Windows 7 and her desktop PC is running Windows XP.
