UPDATE: SILVER AUDIO APPASSIONATA & SILVER SYMPHONY CABLES

0

So it won't get lost in the thread below, this is fresh news about
my Silver Audio Appassionata cables that presently connect my
Wadia 861 to my InnerSound ESL 300 (for summer use).

I found that a pair of All Clears, which are smaller versions of the
Power Wraps and intended for use on interconnect cables, lowers
the system resolution floor, but only when applied to the external
ground wire and not the entire cable.

The Appassionata balanced IC has a small ground wire external to
the jacketed, braided cable. When I tried the All Clears on the
entire cables, the sense of liveliness went out of the music.
However, when I applied them to the ground wire only (it is
loosely attached with tiewraps), the resolution improved.

I don't know if this tweak will help with Appassionata ICs used
between the MP-1 and Atma-Sphere power amps, but whether it
does probably depends on your overall RF environment. My
InnerSound amp has 1000 ohms input impedance on the balanced
inputs.

In the same tweak session, I applied some Power Wraps to my
Silver Symphony 48 cables that connect the InnerSound amp to
my Magnepan MG-20s for full-range, summer use.

This improvement is more profound. It reduces a mid-bass
confusion that was limiting the sound-stage accuracy. Lifting the
cables helped, but this tweak takes the performance another step.

In case anyone is worried, my wife begged me this morning to
never get rid of the Atma-Sphere amps. The InnerSound, even
with all the recent tweaks, still does not match the MA-1s for
clarity and timbre accuracy.
