SACDs vs. "regular" CDs

0

Ralph, etc.,

I have both a Cary 306/200 CD player and a Sony 9000ES DVD/SACD player (unbalanced out), into an atma-sphere MP3 preamp and then into atma-sphere M60 monos, into bi-wired Newform Research R645s, all with Coincident cabling. B.T. (before tubes) I really liked the SACD detailing and "realism", but now with the Cary and the atma-spheres I find the SACDs far inferior sounding compared to Chesky disks played on the Cary. SACD now sounds thin and harsh, with small soundstage, compared to the much more analog sound of the Cary with Chesky CDs. I'm sure there are other CD players that would sound good at a lesser price (just ask Ralph), but I like what I hear from the Cary. What I don't like is many other CDs, whose production is less than stellar. Most of my CD collection needs to be traded in now. :( The better the system, the worse most of your CDs will sound! The more un-natural the recording production, the more un-naturally revealing a better system will be. I guess my next step is vinyl. The more I spend, the more I find there is no substiture for true analog. I guess that's a good thing. :)
