OK, so there I was pleased as punch with my MA240s driving the heck out of my Sound Lab M1s with the new circuit upgrade. The sound was tonally flat and seductive. Then in the middle of a listening session the other night, things turned subtly sour. Afterwards, I initially told myself that I had been playing an inferior quality CD at the time (and indeed it was) but somehow I knew I was kidding myself. After further consideration I decided I had better check the fuses for each of the 6C33C-B output tubes. Sure enough, I had two blown fuses in one monoblock and one blown fuse in the other. There was no other identifiable problem with either amp, so I must conclude that although the combination of spkr and amplifier sounds great and plays loud without audible strain, I pulling too much current thru the output stage at certain times. Thus, the Zeros may be called for. Other alternatives are the application of some NFB to reduce amplifier output Z or the use of higher value fuses. (Currently, each 6C33C-B is fused by a 1A/250V fuse.) Anyway, thank you again, Paul, for the Zeros.
