I used 6SN7s running at 7mA (this is not a low current tube either),
but to get the headroom for a big enough plate resistor I put the
B+ up to 600V. I believe this is the right way to go. (Sadly my
Atmas have been out of commission for months, and I haven't found
the time to fix them). The 7119 is a nice tube too but whatever
tube you use, you still need the headroom. Upping the current reduces
the plate resistance but not enough to outweigh the loss in gain
due to smaller load. (IIRC its a third-root relationship).John
