Henry,Thanks for bringing this up. I recommend Silver Audio cables because my wife (a trained classical harpist with a critical ear for timbre of real instruments) and I believe they sound much more like live music than the Kimber cables we compared them to. Also, we know Max and his wife Kim as friends. I get no money from Max, and even paid full price for my cables back in 1998.
We have not compared our Silver Audio cables with other high-end types, so I can't claim Max knows more than anyone else about cable design. I also can't say how much the manufacturing process changes since 1998 (wire plating, insulation application, cold-welding of terminations, etc.) have improved the performance of his present offerings or those of his competitors. I expect to buy some phono cables from him in the next year or so, when I get my preamp done, but I'm not in a position to think seriously about upgrading what we already have.
With all these disclaimers, anyone serious about the performance of a system comprising Atma-Sphere electronics should take my recommendation only as a starting point. Cables do make a difference. Poor cables will nullify the sonic value of your investment in components. The theory is incomplete, to be polite about it. Listening to them in your setup is the only way to evaluate cables.
