Paul,My take on motorized speakers is disgust tempered with the realization that a market exists for such toys. High end audio has always depended on a mass market of uninformed consumers for entertainment equipment. Long ago there were expensive radio sets made with nonfunctioning tubes on the chassis. The purpose was to increase the tube count, so the consumer could boast that his set had more tubes than his neighbor's. Today, the hot item in the automobile radio aftermarket is the kinetic display, with a video screen that swings out from the dash to more easily distract the driver. Neither case has anything to do with performance, but the mass market makes things like tubes and integrated circuits cheaper for all of us. If Magnepan sells more speakers by virtue of putting motors on some of them, the rest of us will eventually benefit from lower prices throughout the audio market.
