My Goldmund studio has a linear tracking arm and pretty much eliminates any tonal problems with off centre records. The latest table in my system has such a fine sound with a 12 inch arm that it makes up for any slight tonal deviations. The thread that drives the platter is another matter as it seems to get a bit longer as it wears which causes the platter to slow. A new thread eliminates this problem. There is not doubt a good setup for LP's is a pain to get right but I think the end result is worth the effort. The trick with LP's is to go the extra mile. As with cd players there are good and bad turntables and the quality of LP's are just as variable as cd's. Give me "any good" direct to disc recordings/RCA Red seals/Analogue Productions/ RR 45 LPs and I'm in heaven. So much for Perfect sound forever..
Sorry for my ranting, I am just a born again Analogue lover. The cd player in my system will stay (for now)..Take advantage of the capabilities of your MP3. Invest in a realy good turntable and experiment with its setup until you cannot believe your ears:)
