I converted my Amps to 6336a tubes about 18months ago and continue to be thrilled with the results. My maggies (mg3.6) finally have the power and control they require :-)I have seen many posts on the subject over the past few years and would be interested in the comments / learnings of those who have done the conversion.
I certainly learned a great deal from Mark, Ralph and Harry (Straub) and would be interested in knowing:
(1) Who has done this conversion
(2) Are they still happy (after how long)
(3) What are the tips and tricks they have learned.
For my contribution:
(a) Burn the tubes in for about an hour or so before firing them up (increased my success rate with old tubes from 50% to 90% !)
(b) Use the tip jacks for each tube as proposed by Mark Gilmore (you can see how each 1/2 tube is working and see which of them are "way out"
(c) Stitch a little asbestos overcoat for your pet (they get REALLY hot);-*
any other input?
