I don't like the Mullard 12AT7s all that well either. They are way too microphonic. I do like the Mullard CV4024. That's a very different tube. They are the best I've ever found for the phono section.Now please keep in mind this kind of tube comparison must me made with an MP-3 line stage. Any tube sonic observations made in another preamp are not valid for the MP-3.
As far as a 12AU7 replacement goes, I do like the 7316 the best. The Mullard 8136/CV4003 is very good as are the sixties BB's.
