I have completed Pauls mod to the gain stage ,doubling the standing current and also adding the Frode/Allen Wright all tube SLCF. Ive had the tube voltage strap for some time running with the Mosfet CCS and now I have a handle on the heater/cathode voltage issue,ive completed the conversion.
As the tube SLCF-CCS is now higher also (running @ 9mA) im becoming concened at the life of my lovely 12SX7s.
I have 12SN7s in both CCSs and the voltage strap as well ( I cant discern a difference)but my supply of 12SX7 isnt endless.
Sure - the amps now sound even more stunning and I realise Ralphs understandable conservatism in these matters, but at these current levels will the tube life be seriously compromised.
