The only parameter that the two types have in common is a similar mu. Moreover, any book or manual that suggested to you that these two types are directly interchangeable ought to be ignored in future. JJ makes a new tube type, the ECC99, that is similar in its operating parameters to the E182CC but does have the same pin-out as a 12AU7. However, even in that case, the ECC99 would require lots more current than the 12AU7 to operate properly in the MP3, necessitating circuit changes to obtain good results.
