Dear Dead,Normally if you half the number of output tubes in an OTL amp, the output power becomes less than half (this is why a ST-30 needs 5ea instead of 4ea 6AS7s/ch) and the damping factor decrease by half.
If you use an autoformer to double the impedance of your speaker, along with pulling half the number of output tubes in your OTL, the impedance relationship between the amp and speaker remain the same. In other words the damping factor will not change, so the woffer should sound the same, and only half the output power is lost.
