Dan: I too have heard the Duo's driven by 45s, in a store setting. I am certain that a well-designed SE or PP amp using 45s can compete with an Atma amp on 100-db spkrs. But one IS limited to 100-db efficiency spkrs with a type 45 amp. That's the problem for me; so far I can't fall in love with the Duo's. In fact, I find the tweeter a bit irritating after prolonged listening, although the first ten minutes are marvelous. (But I feel confident that Kurt's personal system must ameliorate some of the problems I detect in the store demo.) My heart and my ears belong to full-range ESLs, and for that type of spkr a tube OTL amp cannot be surpassed. (By the way, isn't it interesting that most of the early 300B worshipers have shifted allegiance to increasingly lower power tubes, first to the 2A3 and now to the 45? What comes next?)
