The number of connections are identical, whether you use the shorting plug, with the RCA inputs, or use the XLR input with single ended inputs and the short installed within the XLR connector.When I use a single ended source, I prefer to use the XLR input, with the appropriate pins shorted inside the XLR hood, just because I'm too lazy to install the shorting pins.
