Re: Enjoy the Music scoops Atma-Sphere web site!

The photo in question was taken by Mark Gilmore and is the same that's on the ASOG site. So its not a scoop.

But here is the deal with the Atma-Sphere 208:

We started with an Empire 208 and modified it to see what it could do. It *could do* pretty good! So we had a plinth made up that used all th eold parts but is machined from solid 6061 aluminum rather then the sand cast 1/8" (but looking like .75" think) original. The new unit is a lot heavier and plays overall better too.

Setting up an existing unit with the new plinth, machining for the original platter, damping the original platter, setting up the plinth for whatever arm is used and that sort of thing can cost up to $3200.00. So it is not cheap, but it easily keeps up with anything out there.

We basically did it for fun and its been all of that.

Right now you can get the original turntable for $50 to $300 depending on condition. Since what we are doing is basically an upgrade to an older machine, availability is limited so we're not doing much to actually market it. I expect the cost of the original will go up too. But its a solid player when its done.
