The Clive Locke article from that year was a re-hashed version of one of our MA-1s, with negative feedback added (and an unbalanced version of the output, ie one speaker terminal at ground potential). An underground newsletter from a few years earlier had published an unofficial schematic of the MA-1, which seemed to be the inspiration for the article (I am basing this on the way the schematic was drawn in the published article as this was the same, rather unique means used in the underground schematic).
