...at Stereophile show in NYC a year ago. However, Mark controlled the input, so there was no independent means of checking out the demo's validity. It was being positioned as a way of getting MP3's to sound as good/better than CD's, and if that is what was really being used as source material, they succeeded. The end result sounded like upsampled CD.What was shown was a prototype system...apparently consisting of computer software and a dedicated external DAC. You probably know more about the commercial release than I do, but I gather the commercial product pretty much is the same thing.
I don't know if it is hi-rez, but it is certainly high quality. Since disk space is becoming less and less and issue, not sure how valuable it is to an audiophile...but it should allow playing of downloaded MP3 files to sound of at least CD grade through a main system.
