Listening to them right now - Bose QC20.
Very good noise cancelling, on planes they cancel mostly the low frequency noise and let you actually hear the low frequencies in the music.
The sound quality is quite good, and not just compared to other noise cancelling earphones. They are very musical with good bass and nice 3-dimensional midrange. Treble may be a bit rolled off but not excessively so. The only earphones I have which sound better, are my Shure SE215, and it's a closer call than you might think. I'm perfectly happy to listen to the QC20 without feeling that I'm missing anything.
The $300 price seems excessive unless you really need the noise-cancelling feature. I would say for the sound quality alone they should sell for about $150. Throw in another $100 for the best noise cancelling technology (Bose is really good at this) and another $50 for all the Bose marketing.
See the review below which pretty much covers everything.
