No, they're still up there near the best, and they are user repairable, just order the right parts. I get parts for my HD580s and repair them myself. (Many parts are interchangeable between the 580 and 600.) I replace cushions every couple years. You can find video reapir guides on Youtube. Any item that you actually wear will wear out, just like a pair of sneakers.
There's a lot of slick-looking new phones out there (Beats, etc.), and most of them stick sonically. You CAN get ones that you may like a little better, but they ain't cheap (a lot more than $169). Lots of reviews of these on headfi.org, etc. For my money, the best ones still come from Audeze, Sennheiser, Beyerdynamic, AKG, etc.
Also, in a headphone, comfort becomes almost as important as sound quality, and that varies widely between brands.
