I've been frequenting the Headfi "For Sale" forums recently, as both seller and buyer, and I too have noticed this. At most hifi trading sites, used gear (gear related to loudspeaker audio) usually sells for 50% to 70% of it's new value. At Headfi, used headphone gear usually sells for 65% to 90% of it's new value. And, there are some good reasons why things work this way at Headfi. Headphone gear costs less to package and ship so resale values tend to stay slightly higher. Headfi'ers also tend to be a younger crowd, more implulsive and more about "flavor of the month" than the older crowd of loudspeaker enthusiasts around here are. I think they tend to list gear with the expectation that someone else's curiosity and impetuousness is going to get the better of them. But it also seems like Headfi'ers who do not sell their gear within a couple of weeks often act as if they are becoming hungry and/or impatient - and then it is the proper time for a prospective buyer to dive in and negotiate a lower price. I'm mentioning all of this mostly because the summer months are usually the best time to buy used gear cheaply. Nice people over there at Headfi - I like them!
