I have the HiFiman TWS600 Bluetooth ear buds, which I got from Amazon last year for $79. I had to send the first pair back when they wouldn't charge properly. Customer service was very good. They are my first pair of BT ear buds and I didn't want to spend much. They're quite comfortable, the charge lasts a long time, and the sound is much better than I would expect for the price. I've only used them with my Amazon Fire and Android phone, but I'll try them with my Bluesound Node soon to find how they sound with HD quality music.

I was thinking your friend's higher price limit would allow for the next step up, but I see the TWS600 are going for $199 now! Waiting for a sale might be a good option...
