I've tried many earpads for a number of make/model headphones, and they all affect the sound in some manner. The replacement earpads in question don't impart a notable difference in tonality nor the sense of soundstaging that the Sennheiser HD 558 do so well, to my ear. An assortment of custom headphone cables I've built for the headphones are more influential towards the presentation than the particular earpads produce. It's one of the things I like so much about the HD 500 Series headphones. I'm still in the process of building a few more DIY cables for my collection.
