I listened to selected excepts from the (blissfully) surround-heavy "Queen: A Night At The Opera" with the player set to "6CH" via the 2CH outputs. The results are not entirely satisfactory, but nonetheless everything was there, including much bass and all the relevant surround bits.

Really, this is a none-issue. As I say, it's part of the spec, and Toshiba should know that spec since they are part of the whole DVD-A phenomenon.
