EMI Rattle/Berliner Mahler 5 DVD-V/A a great buy!

$27.99 Canadian at Sam the Record Man gets you a superb video with sound in 16/24 PCM, DD 5.1 and DTS 5.1 and a "free" DVD-A, albeit in 48/24 stereo and 5.1. This is the live recording which was reviewed very favourably by Paul Seydor in TAS ("more completely than any conductor this side of Bernstein.").

At any rate, the video is excellent - really shows you how demanding the piece is for conductor and orchestra - and the DTS 5.1 soundtrack is very good with very modest use of the surround channels. The DVD-A is very good as well, within the limitations of 48/24.

This is a very attractive concept for marketing music to audiophiles - after all, many DVDs contain a second disc. The only real weakness here is the Mid Rez 48/24.
