I've got a Denon DVD-3800, and Barenboim's 4&5th, 7&8th, and 9th. All sound OK. What don’t you like about them?Some classical DVD-As which I bought and highly recommend:-
~ MDG: Missa Solemnis (Beethoven); 6-channel 96kHz / 24bit recording;
~ Naxos: Four Seasons (Vivaldi); 5.0-channel 96kHz / 24bit recording;
~ SurroundedBy Entertainment: Ravel/Debussy/Faure: Guarneri String Quartet; 4.0-channel 96kHz / 24bit recording; and 2ch 192kHz 24 bit recording!!;
~ Bach: St. Matthaus Passion — Superb!! (Harnoncourt / Teldec); 5.1-channel 96kHz / 24bit recording;
~ Dvorak: Symphony 9: From The New World — excellent live performance - sonics: 7 out of 10: (Harnoncourt / Teldec); 5.1-channel 96kHz / 24bit recording (I think);
~ Tacet: Schubert: Auryn Series Vol VIII (C Maj D956); 6-channel 96kHz / 24bit recording;Also, all the AIX chamber music titles, including these in particular (all offer excellent clarity and detail; they are original, hirez recordings, direct with no added EQ etc., and have separate 5.1-channel 96kHz / 24bit (MLP); and 2-ch - DVD-V-compatible - 96kHz 24 bit LPCM mixes):-
~ Marcello, Handel, Vivaldi: Oboe, Organ Concertos;
~ Mozart Symphonies 26 & 41;
~ Mozart: Variation K.573 — (best part is the Schumann Fantasie Op17);
~ Chopin: The Four Ballads (dual sided — with DVD-Video on the reverse);
~ Scarlatti & Beethoven (woodwind quintet);
~ Haydn: Piano Trios.
I do not have these yet, but also check out:-~ Farao Classics: Die Walkure (Wagner) — I’ve been told it’s excellent (even though it is a 48kHz recording);
~ Tacet: The Gaede Trio Series Vol. VIII - Markus Schirmer, piano - Mozart - The Piano Quartets KV 478 and 493; 6-channel 96kHz / 24bit recording highly rated;
~ Mozart: Requiem (Hodie); 6-channel 96kHz / 24bit; and 2ch 192kHz 24 bit recordings - separate MLP mixes;
~ Mozart: Symphony No. 40 (Hodie); 6-channel 96kHz / 24bit; plus 2ch 192kHz 24 bit recordings - separate MLP mixes.
Already being edited, and coming in Sept 2003:-
~ Mozart: Don Giovanni - opera - (Hodie); 6-channel 96kHz / 24bit; and 2ch 192kHz 24 bit recordings - separate MLP mixes;
[B.T.W. News-just-in: Naxos have just released Don Giovanni on DVD-A too! See Frank’s post above]
~ J S Bach - complete organ works, Richard Loewe - organist; (Hodie); 6-channel 96kHz / 24bit; and 2ch 192kHz 24 bit recordings - separate MLP mixes.Interestingly, both Tacet and Hodie say they are each bringing out about 25 new classical DVD-As during 2003-2004!
