the video section is based on the panny rp56 rather than the rp82, but it uses the same mpeg decoder as the rp82i haven't heard the audio but put it this way - it can't be any worse than the rp82
i own the rp82 and the audio for dvd-a is quite decent, much better than the pioneer 47a/747/733 etc. - only shortcoming is lack of low level detail
if you are interested in sacd though, you might want to wait for the 2900
