Re: You need to use a soldering iron (nt)

No, you don't have to remove the "flat black disc." The top of the drive slides off once you've unlocked two levers.

Then the entire motor assembly comes off provided you remove the restraining bolts. after that, you disassemble the motor assembly, unsolder the motor from the circuit board, replace the new motor, and then put everything back together again.

It is a bit fiddly, but hopefully you'll figure it out. And if not, buy a new drive!
