Of course, "universal" is a marketing moniker, but I am surprised that several/many universal players don't do HDCD decoding, especially since it is small step from RBCD to HDCD (contrast SACD and/or DVD-A).I have a Marantaz DV-8300 "universal" player, and it doesn't do HDCD decoding. And neither does the DV-9500 or DV-9600. Of course, I can still listen to the disk, but most of us who are into "hi-rez" audio are anal enough that we want to hear our disk at the highest possible resolution.
It looks like the newly-announced Parasound D-200 won't do HDCD either. And not the Onyko SP-1000. Not sure about NAD's new player.
And I am surprised that "new" HDCD titles are STILL being released--CS&N first album is slated for release on HDCD new year. This seems contradictory--universal players are ignoring the format (except Denon?), and yet titles are still being released. What gives?
