depending on the hall used, type of music, etc. He has used as little as 2 microphones and as many as a dozen.Reference Recordings are generally excellent. If you have an HDCD decoder then I would recommend getting the HDCDs. If you can find them the LPs are even better. Reference Recordings will NOT be doing DVD-Audio or SACD but may do a few Blu-Ray.
MDG and Tacet make excellent DVD-Audio's and SACDs. Tacet also releases LPs and many use tubed equipment. Don't know how many microphones they use but the results are excellent.
