New DVD-Audio music releases and talk about the latest players.

Could be player related . . .

Frank, although I don't have the 'Brick' (yet) I think you may both right to some degree. Based on what I've noticed with other Warner DVD-As which use the "Audio" button (i.e. most recent authoring spec) when played in SOME players (i.e. not all) then the "default" track will mirror the way the particular player has been configured in the "setup" menu -- i.e. either as stereo, or as multichannel MLP.

It does this intelligent selection correctly on my ultra-cheapo Panny 2-ch DVD-A/V boombox, whereas my Denon 5900/A11 (same machine as yours?) ignores the player setup and always defaults to Group 1, Program 1 (5.1 audio in most cases), no matter what the authoring spec.
