Re: first Dualdisc a big dissapointment

Hello mark111,

Unfortunately, that Offspring Greatest Hits DualDisc is on Columbia/Epic. And the Sony Music portion of Sony BMG (which comprised of the Columbia, Epic and associated labels) does not support DVD-Audio (DVD-A) at all. Combine that with Sony’s insistence of packing a lot of videos or a relatively long video onto the frigging DualDiscs, and you’ll have a DualDisc whose DVD side sounds no better, and sometimes worse, than the CD side.

And because of the relatively poor quality of Dolby Digital audio, the overwhelming majority of DualDiscs on the Columbia and Epic labels contain only 2-channel stereo mixes. At least the 2-channel stereo tracks on the Columbia/Epic DualDiscs are of the LPCM variety, unlike the non-DVD-Audio stereo tracks on UMG’s DualDiscs (which are in Dolby Digital).
