Just try zipping a JPEG -- the resultant 'ZIP' file is usually not much different in size to the JPEG.
But if you zip a raw .BMP bitmap, then you get significant file-size reductions. So, a BMP is analogous to LPCM and DSD etc.
But a .ZIP file is analogous to MLP and DST etc.
AND, a JPEG is also analogous to MLP & DST, since all three are compressed 'packages', which contain a 'payload'.
And if you zip a JPEG, then you are in effect trying to compress the payload twice.
