The F87 is a 5 disc changer with multichannel output and HDCD capability for $130. The S47 is single disc, stereo only, without HDCD for $100 or less. Both play DVD-Audio discs. The F87 is a progressive scan DVD player, but I'm not sure about the S47.I have the F87 in my bedroom. The video quality is just OK, but unless you have a plasma/LCD or something like that it will be fine. The CD audio quality is surprisingly good for a $130 DVD player. The sound is relaxed, a bit warm with a slightly rolled off top end, good bass, and a big soundstage. I was impressed. It pretty much blew away the Toshiba 3960 I tried and beat my Pioneer 45A also. However, like all cheap DVD players there can be a lot of variability from unit to unit so there have been one or two reports of sonic duds.
