<< How are owners of DVD-Audio discs supposed to play them on a hypothetical Blu-Ray setup then if it will not support MLP? >>

The two issues are not directly related. It's entirely up to the manufacturer whether a Blu-Ray player plays non-Blu-Ray formats, such as CDs, MP3s, DVD-Vs, DVD-As, SACDs, etc. Now it may be that if Blu-Ray makers were forced to pay for MLP, they would be more likely to support DVD-A, since it would involve less incremental pain.
