New DVD-Audio music releases and talk about the latest players.

Re: Is this thread for real?

Even if they only counted single-layer for the second year in a row, the figures still show a better-than-50% drop in SACD sales.

Anyway, that's not the point. Neither format has been embraced by the masses, major retailers are pulling them from the shelves, and no hardware manufacturer is actively marketing hi-rez equipment to the general public. Any sales changes, up or down, are at this point merely statistically insignificant fluctuations. With numbers so small, it takes only one or two "hits" (I use the term with tongue in cheek) to move the needle.

We're talking amongst ourselves here. If hi-rez hasn't caught on by now, it isn't going to (at least in its present forms). The consumer electronics industry has already moved on to the next sideshow attraction - HD-DVD. They're spending their time and money trying to figure out how to sell tomorrow's gimmick, not yesterday's. Dollars to doughnuts, they'll run into the same brick wall for the same reasons - namely, two incompatible formats, and a customer base for the existing product that's not ready or willing to shift to a new product that will require them to repurchase material that they only recently upgraded to the "perfect" system (LPs to CDs, VHS to DVD).

The carnival barker isn't dead - he just got a job in electronic entertainment marketing.

peace,
yrd.
