I don't mind having more formats as long as I get good classical multichannel recordings and nice miltichannel rock mixes I'm happy. But to be realistic, there is little room for two competing hires formats.
This is the age of video and all production is gearing towards it.
Music production moves in that direction too.Soon there will be artist producing only DVD albums. This already happened in Holland with a local artist. No CD only DVD and it sold over 400000 in just a couple of weeks. Put this against a population of 16million people and this is a huge succes.
Besides the lack of video content sacd has other hurdles to overcome. Production facilities need to invest extra, studio tools are lacking.
People without sacd playback capability will buy a hybrid because of the artist and his music for the cd layer.
With a DualDisc anyone with a DVD player gets acces to the mc tracks and video content. Instantly.
I'm shure the latter has for more market potential.
