Also, if you recall your digital sampling theory, it is possible for a reconstructed waveform to exceed 0 dB FS. There is an AES paper about it - depending on the nature of the signal, the reconstructed analog waveform of a digital signal at 0 dB FS can be up to +6dB FS. It is likely that this is happening in my recording of the player's reconstruction of the digital signal.
