Haydn Piano Trios

Had an opportunity last evening to listen again to the Aix recording of the Pro Arte Trio perfoming the Haydn Piano Trios 1, 2, and 4. I recommend strongly this disk to classical music fans in general, and Haydn enthusiasts in particular. The pieces themselves are the sort of clever, lively, and tuneful compositions that made "Papa Haydn" the popular composer he continues to be. I'll leave to more learned musicologists a proper critique of the pieces, but as a Haydn enthusiast, I find it hard to resist them.
The performers provide a tight-knit presentation, playing with verve and fine group cohesion. I hope these Romanian performers get mainstream attention.

As for Mark Waldrup's recording and production, it's everything one expects from AIX. Detail, air, imaging, and a most effective stage presence. This could easily be a reference disk.
