Hi, Eric -I think that the current perks that the music industry has managed to get with the advent of digital media such as aggressive copy protection and charging for music downloads is plenty, which is a great deal more preferential treatment than they have received in the past, yet they have managed to survive for nearly a century without such advantages.
If the music industry wants to further improve its lot, IMO, their best recourse to provide a better quality product than they are doing currently. With everybody with a little extra time and resources being able to set up a reasonably good recording environment, there is no additional reason for the larger companies to get yet further special treatment while putting out mediocre product.
