Thanks for your replies. IMO, the issue is that the software recognizes and records to two different layers ON THE SAME SIDE.

Is DVD-RAM even relevant here, since it never has dual layers ON THE SAME SIDE?

Since Sony ships Nero with the DRU-700A drive, perhaps my question is moot. But then I wonder about other programs (e.g., DVD X Copy Platinum) successfully recording video to each of the dual layers, and DVD players recognizing and reading each layers.
