It was a pretty high-end setup, with Magnaplaner's all around powered by Krell. The SACD player was on of Sony's best (777 or better, as I recall). I really wanted to hear what Mike Bishop was doing with mic placement these days, but noticed the resolution drop-off on other recordings as well. We played mostly classical, as this seems to be where it is most noticeable. On jazz it wasn't quite as easy to hear because of the dB level in the recording. I'm not sure the mastering process has anything to do with what I'm hearing. Telarc claims to keep the recording in bitstream, even during the editing process. I was not aware that this was possible until recently, with the release of new DSD editing systems. Maybe Sony gave them a "black box" before anyone else had it. I know they sent Telarc four engineers and a lot of gear (gratis?). I think Frank may be on to something.Mike
