Re: Low level resolution absent in DSD?

Below is a thread where Christine observed the same behaviour.

The cool edit statistic showed no samples below a certain level.

After she slapped a 6th order bessel filter at 20kHz the resolution showed up below that level.

With dsd it's a trade off between bandwidth or resolution.

In a practical setup without this filter there is indeed a loss of resolution. With a 50kHz filter (standard in most sacd players) it seems that the signal is not completely recovered from the noise floor.

I did some tests myself and found the noisefloor on some pure dsd recordings always at approximate -70dB* below full output.

*Not calibrated yet due to lack of pure dsd test signal disc.
