I was in the same boat you are in. Trying to find a universal player that does all things right, at a reasonable cost, was very frustrating. I have a DVD-A player and enjoyed 5.1 ch music, but having to get to it with set-up menus, etc. is kind of a pain. Rather than go universal, I opted for an upgrade to my 10 year old Adcom CDP and bought an Ayre CX-7. I am now in 2 ch heaven! I am currently in the process of setting up a dedicated home theater that will double as a music listening room. My video source will be a video only Arcam DV 78. I think I will wait until the dust settles more on the two formats and the technology catches up to deliver both formats done well. In the meantime, I'll listen to the Ayre. Good luck.
