Vaughan Williams: "A Sea Symphony" (NAXOS) - First impressions

Well, there is no problem with labeling as to this recording: It was "originally recorded in surround sound at 44.1 kHz, 16 bit resolution" - so what you get is more or less a multichannel CD... The mix is rather conservative, the rears being used for ambience only, with some center mixed in.

The performance by Joan Rodgers (soprano), Christopher Maltman (baritone) and the Bournemouth Symphony Chorus & Orchestra (conducted by Paul Daniel) is quite good - although I think one must compare other recordings on CD played back via Dolby ProLogicII or similar devices.

The Naxos DVD-A is definitely anything but hi-rez yet good value for just €10.99. Another DVD-A release of this symphony with higher sampling rate/resolution would be a no-brainer for me - this piece of choral music is one of my favorites.
