Re: would the firmware update be in the form of a CD?

I'm curious about this too. I bought two of these for family members over this past Christmas. I have a Denon 2900 myself, and it has a 9-pin D connector on the back described as RS-232 port in the manual (standard computer serial port). If the 2900 is anything like my router :-) then it may be possible to hook it up to a computer and upload new firmware through the serial port. I just downloaded the manual of the 563, and it shows a 9-pin D connector on the back too, but it's described as "D1/D2 video out (DV-667A Taiwanese model only)". Could you do me a favor and look at your machine to see if it has a 9-pin D connector (like the serial mouse connector of computers before the PS/2 port became standard for this)? It it does, then it may be possible that Pioneer designed it to allow firmware uploading. If the connector is not there, it's sure to be a hardware change (new EEPROM chip).
