Magazine reviews: Harman Kardon receiver with audiophile 2CH; Yamaha offers "Front Presence" setting for 2+2+2 DVD-A

German audiophile magazine STEREOPLAY (March 2004 issue) hails Harman Kardon's brand new receiver AVR 430 as the first unit to offer audiophile stereo and multichannel performance with CD and DVD Audio (MSRP: €1,000).

Yamaha's new RX V 2400 receiver cannot quite match the Harman Kardon but offers a "front presence" speaker setup for three-dimensional reproduction of 2+2+2 material on DVD Audio (also perfect for many DVD Video soundtracks). MSRP: €1,050.

Also covered in this issue: A report from the 2004 CES in Las Vegas doubts whether hi-rez is a real success in the United States - considering that very few exhibitors would demo it. Philips and Sony's engagement with universal drives/decoders (SD 5.2) and Linn's Silver Engine is seen as a loophole for future DVD Audio support. Marantz DV 6400 is reviewed as excellent yet affordable unit for DVD Audio playback (wide frequency range not equalled by SA-CD) - MSRP: €600.
